Police responded to an attempted stabbing involving two men outside Ross in Rengstorff Center on Friday just after 9 p.m. Their names are still unknown, so we will refer to them as John, wearing a black shirt, and Robert, in a white tank top.

Giselle Arleen, an onlooker, said John was arguing with the cashier inside Ross about a pair of shoes. When Robert stepped in, John became angry and told Robert to fight him outside.

“(John) started arguing with the cashier about some Nike Air Maxes, but the cashier didn’t know anything about the shoes,” Arleen said. “(Robert) tried standing up for the cashier, and that’s when (John) got mad and told him to come fight outside.”

Arleen said that Robert came out a few minutes after John, and the two men immediately started fighting. During the altercation, Robert took out a knife.

“When (Robert) came out, they started swinging at each other,” Arleen said. “Then (Robert) pulled out a blade, and (John) called the police.”

The police arrived just after 9 p.m. and arrested Robert at 9:07. John, who was released from police detainment at 9:28, said that when we went outside to fight Robert, he was attacked by multiple people.

“When we got outside, me and this dude got into it, and a bunch of people helped him,” John said. “So I had to run from them because (Robert) had a blade.”

John evaded Robert by running around the parked cars in the lot, the passengers of whom stayed to help him.

“Some people in a car here saw (Robert) chasing me, and they were helping me as I was running around the car,” John said. “They could have left, but they stayed, and I told them the police were coming.”
