Palo Alto High School’s Associated Stduent Body (ASB) put up posters around the school to raise awareness of breast cancer and promote the Oct. 3 football game.

The Associated Student Body (ASB) is planning to set up a tailgate before the Palo Alto High School football team plays Wilcox High School on Oct. 3.

ASB specifically chose this game to have a tailgate because this is the first Paly home game of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students are encouraged to go out to games wearing pink Paly apparel to embrace school pride and support breast cancer awareness.

According to junior class Vice President Eli Friedlander, students may go on to the Palo High School Online Store and purchase a limited edition “I’m a Viking for a Cure” shirt. Students will then wear those shirts to “Pink Out” at the games to raise awareness.

“A Pink Out is having an entire section full of students wearing pink shirts that ASB is currently selling on the Paly Online Store,” Friedlander said. “Hopefully parents will also buy these shirts to wear at the games as well to wear as much awareness as needed”.

The tailgate will include many leisurely activities such as volleyball, a kan jam ultimate frisbee activity as well as live musical performances on the Paly quad. ASB is coordinating with Sports Boosters to serve barbecue at the tailgate and inviting dessert food trucks to provide students with sweet treats.  A booth from the National Breast Cancer Foundation will have a representative to raise funds as well as educate those interested in learning more about breast cancer.

ASB would like community members besides students to attend the tailgate as well, as the main objective of this event is to encourage breast cancer awareness while promoting support for both the football team and the entire school.

The tailgate will begin on Friday, Oct. 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., preceding the football game that starts at 7:00 p.m.
