BREAKING NEWS: Santa Clara County moves from Purple to Red Tier

Santa Clara County is moving up from the Purple Tier to the Red Tier of Governor Gavin Newsom’s 4-tier reopening plan, state officials announced today at 1:15 p.m. According to Newsom’s plan, K-12 schools can open after the county has been in the Red Tier for 14 days, with schools being required to follow mandatory guidance set by the county and the State of California.

The most recent Superintendent’s update posted on Sept. 4 states that PAUSD schools will not be reopening for in-person instruction before Oct. 12, regardless of county status changes. The district has not commented on how the county status update could affect reopening plans after Oct. 12 yet.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
