The Palo Alto Unified School District announced Monday that assistant principal Kim Diorio has been selected to succeed former principal Phil Winston, who resigned in June. Winston cites serious health-related issues as the sole cause for his decision to step down as principal.
Diorio will replace Marilyn Cook, who had been named interim principal in the wake of Winston’s resignation.
Diorio has held the assistant principal post at Paly for six years and has worked within various Palo Alto schools since 2005. In her time at Paly, Diorio has been instrumental in implementing online tools such as Naviance, and helping to streamline the college application process, according to Superintendent Kevin Skelly.
Diorio was chosen by a selection committee comprised of students, parents, Paly staff members and district officials. Currently, Diorio is not yet the official new principal, as the selection committee must first submit her name to the School Board for confirmation.
“Mrs. Diorio is an outstanding leader who is committed to the success of all students,” Skelly said.
