Boys volleyball cruised past MacDonald 3-0 and secured the league title during senior night on April 30. The win extends the team’s perfect 13-0 league record.
Senior and co-captain Arun Tamura said he loved the atmosphere of the gym on senior night and the support he received.
“I was really happy about how we all played,” Tamura said. “I’m super grateful for everyone who came out — my family, my friends, and even my middle school (and) elementary school teacher came, which was really sick.”
As the team prepares for CCS playoffs, head coach Darryl Chan said the game provided an opportunity for the team to try out new tactics.
“It was just good to see the players drilling together,” Chan said. “We’ve been working on a lot of different plays, and this was a game to tune up for playoffs.”
Tamura said the team will continue to focus on their in-game mentality.
“CCS will have better competition, and we’re all super hyped for that,” Tamura said. “But I think we need to maintain a high level of energy and focus.”
The end of the season brings a bittersweet moment for the team as they watch their seniors play at home for the last time. When the current seniors graduate, Chan said he will miss their energy and leadership.
“They were such great leaders — not just the best players on the team, but they were (also) helping to set up, tear down,” Chan said. “They were super helpful, really encouraging to the younger players on the team as well as the JV (team). I’ve watched these seniors develop over the years, and I’ll definitely miss them.”
