49ers head coach expected to make an appearance at first Viking football game

Jim Harbaugh will flip the coin for Paly’s first football game, according to Principal Kim Diorio.

Palo Alto High School football is in for a surprise this Friday. San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will be coming to Paly’s first varsity football game and will flip the coin to start the season off with a bang. Harbaugh led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl last year.

Harbaugh, a Paly alum, is well-known in the Bay Area for being former head coach of the Stanford Cardinal football team before becoming the head coach of the 49ers in 2012.

“We’re very excited that Coach Harbaugh will be a part of our celebration and that he has agreed to participation in this special occasion,” Diorio said.

Paly head football coach Earl Hansen contacted Harbaugh and asked him if he was interested in being part of the first football game, and he graciously accepted.

Paly’s football team will take on San Benito this Friday, Sep. 13.

The game will begin at 7:30 pm at the football field, and will launch the revamped Viking Stadium.
