School Board Update

During its first meeting of the new school year on Aug. 27, the Palo Alto Board of Education discussed issues that will have serious impacts on budgets in the future. Among the important issues facing the board are a contract for a new site walkway at Henry M. Gunn High School, the ongoing construction activity throughout the district and the Annual Focused Goals for this school year.

During the meeting, board members dscussed a $121,500 contract that would create a walkway area between Gunn’s art building and Spangenberg Theatre. This work is being done to improve campus student circulation leading to the large math and science classroom building.

Board members also touched on the district’s strategic focus for the year, which covers everything from core goals of the School Board to budgeting and long term goals for students.  The Annual Focused Goals will be voted on at the next full meeting on Sept. 10.  A full draft of the goals can be found on the district’s website at www.pausd.org.
