Boy’s soccer takes a big win at the first home game

The boys’ soccer team kicked off their first home game of the preseason in dominant fashion, defeating Irvington High School 6-0 on Dec. 4.

Junior and attacking midfielder James Park said the game’s outcome boosted the team’s momentum going into their game on Dec. 6.

“I feel confident our team can do really well this season, and it’s a very strong start for us,” Park said.

Senior and goalkeeper Jacob Kinsky said this win also helped the team transition from the preseason to league tournaments.

“[It was] a comfortable win, definitely a good preseason game, and a good way to ease ourselves into the real season,” Kinksky said.

Senior and co-captain Zachary Crystal said everyone on the team, from the field players to the energy on the bench, went all out for their first game.

“I think the team as a whole put in a really good performance,” said Crystal. “A lot of effort, a lot of energy, intensity and focus overall helped us win today’s game.”

However, with the league starting soon, Park said the team needs to work on finding fluidity and unity on the field.

“I think we need to build our chemistry more,” Park said. “We have a lot of new players. We have to find a way to click with each other.”

Looking forward, Crystal said the team will focus on fine-tuning its playstyle to ensure success.

“I think if we just play a little more fluidly, pass more, and be a bit calmer with the ball, which we are working on and going to get, our team will have what it takes to make it to CCS,” Crystal said.
