    Golf on winning streak

The undefeated girls varsity golf team says it is confident as it prepares for the CCS and League competition at the end of the month.

Looking to compete at states at the end of the season, junior Priya Bakshi said the team is motivated to keep up its winning streak.

Bakshi attributed the team’s recent success to the competitive and experienced players on the team. According to Bakshi, many other schools do not have as many players play frequently outside of school through club teams or tournaments.

“We’re first in our league because we’re really one of the most competitive teams,” Bakshi said. “We all play tournaments outside of school. We’re all like we’ve all been playing for a really long time, so we’re the most experienced team.”

Regarding their upcoming match against Monta Vista, Katherine Sung, another junior captain, said the team is relatively confident as it started the season strong and Monta Vista is currently ranked lowest in the league.

Last week, the team dominated both Gunn and Lynbrook in separate matches. Before the team played Lynbrook, Sung said, “I’m really confident that we’re going to win, but the next team we’re playing is Lynbrook [High School], and they’re definitely more competitive than most other teams,” Sung said. “That will probably be more of a challenge, but we should be able to win both matches.”

Although the team remains undefeated, they feel unprepared for CCS. “ I feel like we need to prepare more just because all the other teams have improved,” said Bakshi. “It’s not just us, Parker High school has definitely gotten a lot better. A lot of the private schools have. We’re not playing to our potential right now.”

In order to prepare for CCS, the team will be practicing at  Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey where they will be playing in the CCS practice round.

If the season continues to go well, the team is looking to place well at states at the end of the season.

“One of our big goals is making it to states for the last two years,” Bakshi said.  We’ve made it to the NorCal competition, and we’ve gotten knocked out, but we have a really strong team this year, so we want to get to states and remain undefeated”
