Paly to host vaccine clinic for five to 11-year-olds in Peery Center

PAUSD is hosting a vaccination clinic for children ages five to 11 this Sunday, Nov. 21, at Paly’s Peery Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in partnership with Safeway Pharmacies.

Superintendent Don Austin announced in an email last Saturday that the district received an initial shipment of 1,500 doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

“The event is specifically designed to vaccinate newly eligible students from 5-11 years old,” Austin said in the email. “While (PAUSD is) hosting the event, members of surrounding communities may also attend.”

Parents and guardians must book appointments and fill out the consent form in advance here. Participants under 18 cannot get vaccinated without their parent or guardian present at their appointment.

Paly nurse Jennifer Kleckner said PAUSD asked parents to register in advance so they can get the paperwork set up.

“Complete and bring a copy of the consent form, bring a copy of medical and insurance information, and try to wear a short sleeved shirt,” Kleckner said.

Elementary school parent Jamie Merkel says she was unaware of the clinic initially.

“I did hear about the clinic in a conversation with a friend over the weekend, (but) I wasn’t aware of the clinic until then,” Merkel said. “My child is already vaccinated with his first shot, but I think the clinic is helpful for those who are unable to get appointments with the county.”
