In a thrilling home game on March 15, boys lacrosse beat Archbishop Mitty 10-8.
The match was close, with both teams trading goals back-and-forth. The game was decided in the final 15 seconds, when Paly scored to take the lead.
Sophomore Richard Zhang, who had one goal and one assist, said executing the game plan played a large role in their victory.
“We did a great job sticking to our plan to lock down number 12, and that definitely helped us a lot,” Zhang said. “We knew he was going to be their best player and is their main scorer.”
Head Coach Ed Hattler said the team’s defense played a massive role in their win.
“Our defense played really well, and our goalie made a bunch of saves,” Hattler said. “Our defense was talking really well. We gave up some goals (because of penalties), but otherwise we played pretty well.”
Hattler said the offense also played well, but as a whole, the team needs to work on committing fewer penalties moving forward, as they can temporarily give the opposing team man-up opportunities.
“The biggest thing we need to improve on is not getting those penalties,” Hattler said. “Our offense needs to have a bit more movement, but it looked really good today. (It was) the best we’ve had during the season.”
Furthermore, Zhang said despite difficulties, he believes the team will be successful this season.
“We gave them too many opportunities to score and (made) a lot of mental mistakes, but we played well as a team together,” Zhang said. “If we just keep playing like that, we’ll definitely keep winning games.”
