On Friday, Dec. 5, the boys basketball team beat Overfelt 81-42 in a blowout match at home, resulting in their second win in the first two matches.
Head coach Jeff LaMere said he was proud of the team’s performance.
“I thought in the first half we fouled too much, but we had great effort,” LaMere said. “One of the things we talked about was trying to have effort and intensity for the full 32 minutes, and I thought we accomplished that.”
Junior Tanmay Adya agreed.
“We really just persevered throughout the game,” Adya said. “We were really disciplined. Instead of just turning over the ball, we had a lot of ball fakes, and our defense was good.”
Despite the win, LaMere said the team needs to work on their game knowledge.
“We need to play smarter,” LaMere said. “We have to realize, when we have 14 fouls in a quarter, maybe (we) let off the pressure a little bit.”
Although it had little impact on the result during the game, LaMere said this issue could pose a potential problem in the future.
“(Overfelt) shot 17 free throws in the first half,” LaMere said. “And when you play and you advance to league, or start playing much better teams, (and) you put a team on the line 17 times in the first half, that’s way too many (times).”
Adya said in the future he thinks the team can improve by making the most of every play.
“I wouldn’t say there’s much that we can really improve on,” Adya said. “Except getting good shots every possession and making sure every possession counts.”
Altogether, Adya said the teams’ goals are to win games and create a strong team community within the team.
“(Our goals are) just to win league, win championships, and have good team chemistry,” Adya said.
