In a close match, the still-undefeated varsity boys tennis beat Los Gatos High School 4-3 on March 17.
Senior captain Lucas Tung said despite the team’s early success, there is still room for growth.
“We need to improve our doubles line up and have concrete partners because we’re mixing and matching a lot of people,” Tung said.
Senior Ethan Kleiner said these frequent mix-ups are beneficial.
“I agree it’s a bit difficult to play well with mix-ups, but I think it’s also been helpful since I’ve learned how to work with different partners,” Kleiner said.
Tung also said the team has set ambitious goals for the season.
“Our goals are to go undefeated, win the league and go deep in CCS and maybe go to states,” Tung said.
Senior Nuri Hafizi said he is looking forward to continuing to build on the team’s strong start.
“I’m super excited to play with the guys and keep our winning streak,” Hafizi said. “We’ve played some decent competition already, and we’ve done well so far.”
Hafizi also said the relationships he has built as part of this group have made his experience especially meaningful.
Hafizi said, “It’s my fourth year on the team, and my teammates are more like family. I’ve enjoyed becoming close with all of my teammates and motivating everyone to be the best version of themselves.”
