In the team’s first league home game of the season, featuring an intense back-and-forth competition, boys lacrosse fell to Menlo Atherton High School 5-3 on March 19.
Head coach Ed Hattler said despite the loss, he was proud of how the defense performed.
“Our defense really did a good job,” Hattler said. “We knew it was going to be a defensive struggle, and we just couldn’t find enough goals to win this game.”
Senior attacker Shalin Dwivedi agreed.
“Our defense played really well, and our offense played decent too, but our defense is really what kept us in the game,” Dwivedi said.
Moving forward, Hattler said he wants the team to refine technical skills that can strengthen the team’s attack.
“We’re still working on trying to win more ground balls, and we’re gonna have to try and find more offense going forward,” Hattler said.
Specifically, Dwivedi said the offense needs to improve its goalscoring abilities.
“I think (we can improve on) really just finishing our chances on offense,” Dwivedi said. We have opportunities — we just need to make sure that we can stick them in the back of the net and just finish them next time.”
Hattler said the team can show a lot of growth this year as it’s a younger one.
“We lost 14 seniors last year, so we have a lot of guys coming up,” Hattler said.
Ultimately, Dwivedi said the team has its eyes set on winning some titles this year.
He said, “Our team goals for the season are to make CCS, win that championship, (and) bring it home.”
