The Campanile covers: Surfing

Paly senior Johnny Rohrbach and senior staff writer Kai Oda venture to Santa Cruz in search of solid waves in the spring of 2017.

The misconceptions of surfing in California are as follows:

  • It’s cold as s**t
  • Surfers come in all shapes and sizes. For example, Kai is a small, skinny Asian male surfer while Johnny embodies the typical muscular white “surfer dude.”
  • We have cliffs, not beaches.
